Four steps
Grab the SourClient installer for Windows. It bundles its own Java, so there is nothing else to install.
Drop your own OptiFine 1.8.9 jar into the launcher when prompted. Your resource packs and shaders come along.
Sign in to the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft. SourClient never sees your password, and there is no separate account to make.
Hit play. Tune your HUD, pick a cape, set your keybinds, and drop into the game.

Nothing here expires. Add Sour Gold later only if you want the cosmetics and theming.
Before you start
SourClient does not include Minecraft. All game files download directly from Mojang's official servers, exactly like the vanilla launcher. You will need a Microsoft account that owns Minecraft: Java Edition.
